ANNOUNCEMENTS SPENCERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL - Friday, November 20, 2009 The Black Pack is back. T-shirt order forms are in the office. Orders, with money, can be turned in to the office. No personal checks will be accepted. Attention all Juniors: There will be a short 10 minute meeting after school today in room 414 to decide the Prom theme. Anyone with suggestions should write them down on the theme sheet in the office. Students going on the trip with Mrs. Baumgartner today will need to report to her room at 8:35. Students who worked at fall sporting events may stop in the office and get their money from Billie. Mrs. Yahl's students will need to report to study hall today. School will be released one hour early due to Parent/Teacher conferences next Monday. We will also be on a one hour early release schedule next Tuesday due to the holiday. Students who have Saturday School will need to meet Mr. Wood at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the entrance by his room. You will need to bring something to keep you busy. Next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. there will be a parent meeting for the students going to Costa Rica in Mrs. Byer's room. Also at 6:30 that same night, the Spanish Club is having movie night. Any member is welcome to join Mrs. Byer in her room. There are permission slips that will need to be signed and returned in order for you to participate in movie night. See Mrs. Byer for more information. The American Red Cross will be in town on Monday, November 23. Blood donors are needed. If you are 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, please stop in the office and sign up to donate. You will need a note from your parent in order to leave school to donate. Josten's will be here next Monday to deliver class rings that were ordered earlier in the year. They will be in the cafetorium during lunch. Anyone interested in playing softball this Spring is welcome at Open Batting at the Old High School from 10-11:30am this Saturday morning. Next Monday night at 6:30, there will be financial aid meeting for any parent or student interested in learning more about the process of applying for college financial assistance. Please meet in the high school computer lab. Driver's education information for the month of December is available in the office. Classes will start December 7. Seniors - Ohio Northern University is waiving all application fees from now until December 1st. Wapakoneta will be hosting a "Transitions to College Night" for area students. The event is Monday, November 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Wapakoneta High School. There will be a variety of representatives present. The University of Findlay is having an Art Career Day on November 21st, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Pre-registration is preferred. See Mrs. Falke for more information. PLEDGE........... Boys Basketball Reserved Seats On Sale Nov. 16th Reserved seat tickets for varsity boys basketball games will be on sale in the school office from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. beginning November 16th and will continue through December 4th. Tickets will also be on sale during parent-teacher conferences on Nov. 19th and 23rd from 5:00-8:30 p.m. Tickets are just $6 per game (same cost of a ticket at the door). There are 11 home games this year making the total $66. There will be no seat license fees this year. Returning ticket holders have the opportunity to keep their former seats, or move to any open spot. There are plenty of seats available for individuals who have not had seats in the past. Reserved tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is advised to buy seats early for the best selection. The Bearcats open the season at St. Henry on Dec. 4th and begin the home schedule on Dec. 5th vs. Minster. Home games will have 6:00 JV starts this year, instead of 6:30. The Western Buckeye Chapter of Credit Unions is offering a scholarship opportunity to those seniors planning to do some type of schooling after graduation. Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is February 12, 2010. Any sophomore interested in attending the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar will need to see Mrs. Falke before December 1st. This is an excellent leadership opportunity. Students are not to be wearing hats and/or hoods while in the building. Seniors: Please be sure to check the guidance calendar regularly for college events and deadlines. Students who bring cell phones to school are reminded they are to be kept in your LOCKED locker. If for some reason you choose to have your cell phone out and it is taken from you by a teacher or staff member, it will be turned into the office and your parent or guardian will have to come in to pick it up. It will NOT be given back to you without a parent being present. Gentlemen are reminded when you turn 18 years of age, you need to register with the Selective Service. For more information, you can see Mr. Kuhn or Mrs. Falke. The mobile dentist will be coming back to our school. Applications are available in the office. Students are reminded when you are absent from school you must bring a note from your parent or guardian to the office within 48 hours of the absence. Without a note, your absence will be unexcused and 2% will be deducted from your grade in each class. Also on the day of absence, a parent or guardian needs to call in your absence to the office. Seniors who plan to attend a career or technical institution can pick up an application for the Ohio Elks Association Education Grant in the guidance office. Deadline is February 1, 2010. US Bank is offering an opportunity for seniors to win a $1,000 scholarship. Forty scholarships will be awarded in a random drawing. Students must apply online at usbank.com/studentloans before March 31, 2010. The Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award Program is offering monetary awards to girls between the ages of 14-17 that have had significant accomplishments as volunteers. See Mrs. Falke for applications, deadline is December 1, 2009. Pre-season baseball schedules are now available for those interested in playing next season.
